Start paving a pathway to wellbeing
Balance is created by addressing our physical, emotional, mental and social needs. When we struggle to address these needs adequately it can lead to us feeling overwhelmed, out of control, unfocused and stressed.
For some, a consistent routine helps create the balance they need. For others, being flexible enables them to adapt their approach to meet changing demands and needs. Some need to ensure balance throughout their day, others prefer to ensure the ideal balance is achieved over a week.
There is no right or wrong approach to creating balance.
Start to address your balance by identifying the following:
- What do you do on a daily/weekly basis to manage your physical wellbeing?
- How well do you identify, acknowledge and manage your emotional state?
- In what ways do you attend to your mental wellbeing?
- How do you fulfill and meet your social needs?
In answering these simple questions you may find you are meeting needs in some areas, overdoing it in other areas and lacking action in certain areas where you need it most.
What holds some people back from addressing their personal needs is our perception around pressure and urgency and our desire to meet everyone else’s expectations. If that’s you, perhaps your starting point to create balance is to prioritise time for yourself.
Start small if you need to. Find 5 minutes regularly, then extend that to 10 minutes and then 15 minutes.
Lay one stepping stone at a time to pave a pathway of wellbeing and balance!
