Add a little meaning to your actions
The meaning we place on our actions can boost our engagement levels in what we do.
We all want to know that what we do has meaning. We are “meaning making machines”! Nothing has meaning until we assign a meaning to it. Every little thing and every big thing that happens in our day and in our lives serves a purpose and has meaning.
However, the meaning doesn’t happen before the fact, it happens after. We make sense of things after they occur and assign meaning at that point.
This means you have the power to create a compelling sense of purpose to what you do. You have the ability to elevate your engagement and motivation for what you do by assigning positive meaning to your work and actions.
Here are some ways you can proactively assign meaning to your actions to drive purpose, motivation and engagement in your work:
My actions today have helped others to….
The time I took to complete…..was time well spent because….
The work I do benefits….by / because….
The conversation I had with….was really helpful because….
What I do matters because….
Words have immense power. The words we choose to use define our reality so choose your words wisely!
